R4) What is the relation between economics and globalization?

Summary In the globalized market, the TNC is the center of the global economy. We think the TNC is living in a world that crosses borders and is dominated by the TNC. This Reading 4 provides a more detailed description of the TNC's character and significance in the process of economic globalization.  The beginning of the company, which expanded its sphere of activity beyond home country, was just the level of early international development. This is a further development since charter trading companies such as the East India Company and Hudson Bay emerged in Europe after the 15th century. This led to the emergence of colonies and merchant capitalists, creating a corporate empire. However, the main purpose of these companies was trade and exchange, and the start of the TNC was the time of World War I. Increasingly, TNCs are growing exponentially, and the definition of TNCs at this time is 'an entity with the power to coordinate and control operations in one or more countries...

R1) What is Globalization? / Juhee Kim

Summary In this reading, the author ask and answer questions about “What is globalization?”  Globalization is not comprehended by a single context. This is because there are numerous deviations in various contexts, including society, politics, and economy, and this cannot be ignored.   Bellho (1997) argues that the globalization process is different in the community for scholars and observers, and the world from a global perspective.  The concept of globalization in the early 2000s was described as a dichotomous concept. Because policies were mainly formulated by wealthy countries, they became capitalist societies, and important sociological factors were ignored among them.  Behind the creation of the theory of globalization was a simple observation that the world was becoming more and more unified. However, social science played a role in adding uniqueness to the world bound by unity. In addition, social interaction and communication played a pivotal role in th...

R3) What is the relation between politics and globalization? / Juhee Kim

Summary  The author defines the concept of globalization in political terms as multidimensional interconnection across borders.  In particular, with regard to political globalization, the approach to post-national and transnational processes as well as space and time compression was emphasized. For some, while the process of political globalization opens up new possibilities of liberation, for others, globalization means loss of autonomy and division of the world community.  The political globalization has been classified into three categories. It's the tension between world geopolitics, world norm culture, and pluralistic network. One of the reasons why political globalization has become common is the worldwide spread of democracy based on a parliamentary national anthem. Three dynamics of political globalization include changes in nationality and citizenship, public domain and political communication, civil society, space and borders.  The change in state and civil...

R2) What is the relation between culture and globalization? / Juhee Kim

Summary The author defined globalization in this way. Globalization is just an explanation of the flow across the periphery and international boundaries of virtually everything, including capital, goods, people, knowledge, information, ideas, crime, pollution, disease, fashion, faith and image. The connection of being around everything, a characteristic of globalization, has deeply entered our lives. This connectivity is more easily recognizable if we live in a globalized AREA. Connectivity can be a form of communication technology, such as mobile phones, computers, e-mail, the Internet, or a characteristic of the urban environment in which we live, such as the way we make a living, the style of food we eat, music, movies, television, mobility, and travel experience. Therefore, understanding globalization as a process of increasing connectivity is something that can understand the complexity of globalization. From this point of view, the biggest impact of globalization on culture is th...

W1) Why are you taking this class? /Juhee Kim

This is the year when Corona 19 came in. Due to the sudden Corona 19 trend, people all over the world have to wear masks and take care of hygiene. It has become rare to hang out in a group especially on the streets. Above all, the sky roads that were traveling around the world were blocked. Infectious diseases have changed people's lives, and the changed lifestyle has affected various aspects such as economy and culture. In the post-Corona era, people and ideas will shift to a different, new globalization than now when they move around the world. The reason why I take ‘Sociology of Globalization’ is to prepare for the globalization of the future. Also, it is to learn the existing globalization and avoid repeating history errors.
