What is the relation between economy and globalization?/ Jeong Ye-chan

Summury Everybody agrees that ultranational enterprises (TNC) are the core of the world economy. In addition, there is a widespread view that they live in the world of global companies. The first manufacturing and production companies outside of Japan were born in the late 19th century, and by 1914, the eve of World War I, many manufacturing companies in the United States, the United Kingdom and some continents of Europe gradually became supernational.  Since then, the number of TNC's has increased geometrically. The most comprehensive definition of modern TNC, and the definition supporting the discussion in this chapter, is "enterprise with the power to coordinate and control operations in one or more countries". Unfortunately, there are definitions that cannot be quantified because of the complexity of cross-border companies. This is exactly why they are called global companies, but these large companies operate all over the world and have no loyalty to a particular co...

What is the relation between politics and globalization?/ Jeong Ye-Chan

summary Political globalization concerns not only awareness of the compressed nature of space and time, but also access to the social world, which emphasizes the post-national and supranational processes. In globalized literature, political globalization emphasized the decline of ethnic states due to the influence of world powers, while developing supranational networks and streams, and creating different kinds of politics resulting from the process of desegregation. While the process of political globalization opens up the possibility of new liberations, globalization, for some, leads to a loss of autonomy and division of the social world. The political globalization we advocate can be understood as tension between the three processes that interact to produce complex areas of world politics: world geopolitics, world norm culture and pluralistic network. The logic of globalization excludes the central logic of political modernity in expressing internal conflicts within the politic...

What is the relation between culture and globalization? /Jeong Ye-Chan

Globalization refers to a phenomenon or process in which interactions with people, objects, and knowledge in different regions take place simultaneously and rapidly on a global scale. As exchanges between regions are very active due to the development of transportation and communication, globalization is proceeding rapidly, and globalization of culture is accelerating as information and thoughts can be easily exchanged through media such as the Internet and social networking services (SNS). It also affects food, clothing, music, movies, and sports that people around the world enjoy today. In other words, it invades where I am located and other cultural territories. A cultural homogenization phenomenon occurs in which the cultural characteristics of one region are the same or similar in another. Examples include fast-food restaurants, coffee shops, cola and the spread of popular culture. However, there is a negative view of this phenomenon. There is a tendency to be uniformed into Weste...

Blog Assignment2. Hofstede Insights

Image
The countries I chose in Hofstede Insight are Korea, China, and the United States. The first is Power Distance. Power  Distance means the extent to which a society accepts the fact that power in an institution or organization is divided equally.Analysis shows that China and Korea, which have a history of class society, accept inequality and value freedom, while the U.S., where most people value freedom, do not accept inequality. The second is individualism. Individualism means a loosely woven social structure that people regard only as interested in themselves and their immediate family members. Analysts say Korea and China, which tend to be collectivistic, are showing low figures, while the United States, which tends to be individualistic, is overwhelmingly high. The third is  masculinity.   This is not to say that a masculinity is male-centered. Strong masculinity means placing importance on things like economic power, self-assertion, and power. China and the ...

[Blog Assigment 1] WVS analysis : Justifiable: Divorce, Justifiable: Euthanasia

Image
The results are based on a survey of China, Germany, Japan, South Korea and the United States on the legitimacy of state divorce. First of all, China (39.9 percent) argues that divorce cannot be strongly justified. This figure shows the tendency of conservative China. On the contrary, Germany, which values secularism and self-expression, showed 42.8 percent that divorce was always justified. This shows that the perception of divorce is open.  It can be seen as a little more biased toward the perception that Japan and the U.S. have neutral perceptions but can be justified. The figures to pay attention to are Koreans, with 4.0 percent strongly opposed to divorce and 1.0 percent strongly justified divorce, showing a balanced view of divorce. Although the perception of divorce was bad in Korea due to the strong Confucian ideology, the data shows that the negative perception of divorce has been diluted a lot recently.  It can be seen that Korea is becoming more embracing divorce as...

What is globalization? /Jeong Ye-chan

Summary People explain globalization in various ways as a characteristic of globalization. However, globalization cannot be clearly defined. Globalization is a double-edged sword. Globalization promotes global wealth by integrating and communicating all over the world, enabling consumers of all countries to buy various goods of other countries at low prices, and promoting mutual benefit among nations (regions and societies). However, in order to achieve such globalization, sacrifice and exploitation are inevitable like cultural imperialism, and developing countries with weak competitiveness cannot participate in globalization, which could widen the gap between rich and poor. Therefore, continuous discussion and research on globalization is necessary. Interesting point "McDonaldization," a term used by sociologist George Ritzer, was the most interesting. McDonald's is a representative fast food chain in the United States. It is a phenomenon that puts efficiency at the fr...
