 1. Summary Writer argues that it is misunderstood to think that global corporations infringe on autonomy nation-states. In this point of view, he explained how we approach and understand TNC in processes economic globalization. Since 19C, manufacturing production outside their home country is increased. following numbers of US, UK and some continental European manufacturing companies started to  become transnationalized following World War I. Because the notion of TNC includes qualitative characteristics like complex relationship between different companies, it is difficult to measure TNC quantitatively.  Taken together, TNC is measured with FDI: foreign direct investment. It is a direct investment that occurs across national boundaries. FDI was expanded in past years. The world’s TNCs originate from the developed economies is given a great deal of weight on the all of TNCs. There are two motivations behind companies that choose transnationlizing.  1. Summary  According to the writer, globalization is a complicated, combining process of global connection. This connectivity that characterizes the urban environments is increased in various aspect of our lives. It is true that our society is more globally connected than the past. Therefore, perception of globalization as a process of developing connection is helpful to know the various dimensions of process.   It is so hard to escape from the global dominance of the capitalist system. There are two reasons for this.   First, people can’t handle positive judgments about what particular practices drive each thing, but can raise some questions of the structure of analytical categories: Is it economic practices also, cultural? As it is assumption that the economy is worked outside of the impact of culture, the first reason is regard...

[ Blog assignment 2 ] Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory

I’m interested in the culture of Central and South America . Some people say “Korean is Latin American in Korea, and Latin American is Korean in Central and South America .” As such , there is a parallelism between the two cultures. I want to prove this similarity through Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory. I chose two key countries in Central and South America : Brazil and Mexico.    First, both Korea and Central and South America are authoritative societies. Mexico has the highest degree, next to Brazil. Because all countries’ scales are more than half-century , we can guess the hierarchy in their societies is seen as reflecting existential inequality.   Second, both Korea and Central and South America are collectivist societies. Korea has the lowest degree (18), and Brazil(38) and Mexico(30) is similar. They regard the group as important rather than individual. Korean and Latin American tend to follow group decision making.   ...

[ Reading Assignment 1] What Is Globalization?

1. Summary Writers interpret the world loosely. According to the text, globalization is not a thing, so it is not important to reify globalization. We have to recognize its conceptual status, not an ontological matter. A number of scholars think the process  of globalization is plural because there are very different ideas about globalization. The study of globalization is conducted with transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach. Velho  (1997) think globalization is  an  object, a perspective and horizon. This viewpoint involves regarding globalization a single process. After the 1990s, globalization became an academic and political concept. In the 1990s, the cleavage between the group who take a mainly economic position on globalization and those who have adopted a broader view is a powerful characteristic of the concept of globalization. During the late 1990s  antiglobalization  movement built up. As this movement continued thro...
