[Blog Assignment 1] WVS analysis : Confidence of governments in each nations

Since the outbreak of the Covid- 19 virus, government intervention in quarantine and public support has increased, making the role of the government very important.

However, depending on the public's perception of the government, I was thought that accepting the government's action would be different.

So, through the WVS, I decided to analyze how each country perceives each country's government.

First survey question is confidence about their government. Most of country answered "Quite a lot" as 35.9%. What should be noted is that China accounted for the largest percentage in a great deal overwhelmingly.  People in China were very confident about their government.
But I thought there must be another reason for this result. This may be a very dangerous interpretation, but I've seen an article before.

https://theprint.in/opinion/china-is-an-enemy-of-freedom-of-thought-it-wants-the-same-from-other-powerful-nations/502708/

The above article states that the Communist Party of China is an enemy of freedom of thought. The article said, "The Communist Party of China (CPC) poses the most serious threat to the idea that individuals have freedom of thought, and that freedom should be protected by national governments, if not the international community. It is said to be "
So I thought these results will also have the effect of monitoring and ideological control by the Chinese Communist Party.

The rationale for this interpretation was that in other countries, the proportion of people who had negative thoughts about the government was somewhat significant. However, in China, the ratio of negative thoughts was 5.1 percent (Not very much + None at all)in total.

Excluding China, Korea was the most confident of its own government. If you look at the "Quite a lot" variable, you can see that Korea has the highest percentage(47.1%) .

I think Korea's excellent Corona response was due to this government's perception.
Because of the high trust in the government, the people followed the government's response system well, which prevented the spread of covid-19 as much as possible.

As the previous results raised questions about China, we decided to further analyze it.
So second question is "Government has the right: Keep people under video surveillance in public areas"

As you can see from this question, China  accounted for the most positive part of 'government has the right of surveillance'. Countries like the UK and the US also have positive opinions about state surveillance, but as the previous survey showed in common, China has enormous trust in the country. On the other hand, Korea has the largest share of negative opinions about surveillance. Even though Korea has confidence in the government, it has been shown that it does not blindly trust the government, given its negative nature of the nation's surveillance.
