Orientalism: The East is not one country.

 Recently, the Disney film 'Mulan' was released. 

The public expected the film because it is a live version of the animation "Mulan" set in China. However, the public was disappointed when it was released.

In the movie, we could see excessive orientalism. Some of the casts wore traditional Chinese clothes, while others wore Korean and Japanese. Even though traditional Chinese attire varies from era to era, it was not considered. You can see how Disney looked at the East from a Western point of view.

The West has fantasies about the East, even if it's not real. Also, there is 'self-orientation' in Korea. In the music video of K-pop singers, Oriental costumes and backgrounds appear as if to meet the world's demand. It is that our culture is being otherized. 

We should stop 'self-orientation' that makes prejudice stronger. Also, take a critical view of Western Orientalism. We are not one 'eastern' as in their prejudices. We are the countries in the East that have created their own cultures.
