What is globalization? /Jeong Ye-chan
Summary
People explain globalization in various ways as a characteristic of globalization. However, globalization cannot be clearly defined.
Globalization is a double-edged sword. Globalization promotes global wealth by integrating and communicating all over the world, enabling consumers of all countries to buy various goods of other countries at low prices, and promoting mutual benefit among nations (regions and societies).
However, in order to achieve such globalization, sacrifice and exploitation are inevitable like cultural imperialism, and developing countries with weak competitiveness cannot participate in globalization, which could widen the gap between rich and poor.
Therefore, continuous discussion and research on globalization is necessary.
Interesting point
"McDonaldization," a term used by sociologist George Ritzer, was the most interesting. McDonald's is a representative fast food chain in the United States.
It is a phenomenon that puts efficiency at the front and dominates society as a whole.
McDonald's, the symbol of a standardized American way of life, has American ideas and ways of life.
It was deeply ingrained, and I was impressed by the idea of spreading it to the world as well as communicating American values.
Discussion
Globalization is a double-edged sword. What are the examples specifically?
