“What Is Globalization?”/Liu Xinlei

Globalization is an inevitable result of the close development of information, economy, culture, and politics all over the world. In my personal opinion, Globalization, like any new things, has its strengths and weaknesses.

In terms of culture, you once asked, in Asia,China, Japan and Korea, which country is the most globalization country? The first thing I thought of at the time was Japan, because in the culture, Japan is tolerant enough. In my country, many young people choose "Japanese fashion". But this is actually a fashion that is difficult to define in detail, because Japanese culture is tolerant enough. You can see people dressed in different styles appearing on the streets in Tokyo, Shibuya, and Osaka, but passers-by didn’t think this is a strange thing.

At the same time, my friend thought that Korea is the most culturally global country. Because of the Korean Wave, Korean culture has become known to the world. When the Chinese President visited South Korea in 2014, the President’s wife mentioned that the Chinese President looked like a Korean actor when he was young. This reminds me, does our definition of globalization come from the number of diverse cultures in this region, or the cultural influence of this region globally?

In fact, globalization is not the behavior of a single region, but because one action drives the influence of the entire region and even the entire world.

On the one hand, globalization allows culture to be exchanged and integrated, but on the other hand, some rare cultures also face the possibility of being invaded by foreign cultures and leading to their extinction. When we discuss the phenomenon of globalization, we often talk about not a single aspect, a broad one, but covering every detail in life.

Just like the recipe for McDonald's beef patties in India, globalization does not exist in a single form, but changes every step of the way. Globalization cannot be said to be a single cultural invasion, but to change culture in the development of various places. Through the article what is globalization, I learned that globalization has not been brought about by the development of the world in recent years, but has gradually developed in the long history of mankind.

Just as colonization is also a kind of "globalization", globalization has brought about the borderless circulation of culture, economy, and politics, which has also resulted in many drawbacks. In the United States, there have been more than one incident of black men being violently treated by the police in 2020. At the same time, different races are often treated unequal in employment and life in the United States. At a recent UN General Assembly, US President Trump even directly referred to the covid-19 virus as the "the CHINA virus."

His speech put the multilateralism advocated by the UN after nationalism. Perhaps the globalization we are discussing now is not the expansion of single nationalism, but the multilateralism of multiple regions.

From a sociological perspective, globalization is not an optimistic development at the level of developing countries. Because globalization is proposed by developed countries, and its purpose is to complete the economic development plans of developed countries, and want to incorporate the entire world into their economic development map. Each region is an indispensable part of this industrial chain, but As far as the current situation is concerned, most of what developing countries provide is cheap labor and raw materials. To some extent, it is unfair to developing countries.

In summary, people are optimistic about globalization, but I personally think that while enjoying the opportunities brought by globalization, we must also be alert to the threats brought by globalization.
