Blog Assignment 2 Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory-LIUXINLEI
I chose to study China, Hong Kong and Taiwan because I think this will be a very interesting study. In a sense, these three regions are of the same origin and have roughly the same cultural background. Even from the political standpoint of some people, these three regions should be divided into one country, but in this chart, we can see There are still big differences among these three regions.
First of all, when we see power distance, it is China that occupies the highest position, which I am not surprised at all. As a person born and raised in China, I think that Chinese society has too many problems with power distance. In society, not only is there inequality between the upper and lower levels in the workplace, but also on campuses, there are often incidents of student suicide due to the unequal power relationship between the tutor and the student. Discussions often occur on Chinese social media. , But the management that really holds the power of regulation instead issued regulations to increase the power of tutors in colleges and universities. My friends of the same age who are studying in China have all experienced the experience of being oppressed by teachers on campus. I am very angry that this phenomenon is actually considered reasonable and acceptable in a country. The same cultural background, but Hong Kong and Taiwan will be slightly improved.
In terms of individualism, Hong Kong is the highest. Hong Kong is an international region, because of the serious aging, but like other developed regions, many elderly people will also choose to work, and "struggle" occupies a large part of the local culture of Hong Kong, which comes from their dock culture Because of the scarcity of natural resources, traditional farming methods cannot meet the needs of life in Hong Kong early in the morning. Therefore, it is often carried out by sea freight transportation to survive. Perhaps it is the local "struggling" terminal culture plus the later international cultural input. Independent social atmosphere.
In terms of masculinity, Taiwan has the lowest number, I am not surprised at all. This is because at the level of gender openness, I believe that Taiwan is not only doing the best in these three regions, but also the best in Asia. Taiwan has passed a bill to legalize gay marriage, and it has not only made progress in the law. At the cultural level, Taiwan has also put forward many products with inherent gender impressions. In 2000, a school incident involving multiple gender issues occurred in Taiwan. Because a boy was not "masculine" enough, he was bullied by the school, and he was seriously injured and died at school. This incident is also known as the "Ye Yongrong Incident." This incident prompted the revision of Taiwan’s "Gender Equality Education Act" in 2004 and also promoted the transformation of Taiwan’s education policy from the traditional dual gender education extension to a more universal gender equality education. Compared with China's promotion of male power competition, Taiwan is more inclined to pursue quality of life.
In terms of uncertainty avoidance, Taiwan presents completely different data from the other two regions. It can be seen that the people of Taiwan do not like uncertainty very much, and hope that the country maintains strict beliefs and codes of conduct, and cannot tolerate unorthodox behaviors and ideas. Due to historical reasons, Taiwan has many aboriginal people distributed in many provinces and cities in Taiwan. Coupled with the serious aging of Taiwan, the people hope to have a more stable situation and maintain a safe.
In the long term orientation, Hong Kong is the least among the three regions. Because of regional internationalization, people no longer tend to retain the long-standing traditions and norms but prefer to change. It is precisely this point that when it comes to political issues, some young people will choose to use actions to express their positions.
Finally, in terms of indulgence, Taiwan occupies the highest score of 49. In the aforementioned social openness, we can understand that in Taiwan, the joy of life is above all else. Except for the central area, Taiwan has a relatively slow pace of life. Therefore, the cultural constraints of young people are relatively small, coupled with an open cultural environment and diverse cultural shocks, so Taiwan has the upper hand.
