[Blog Assigment 1] WVS analysis : Justifiable: Divorce, Justifiable: Euthanasia
The results are based on a survey of China, Germany, Japan, South Korea and the United States on the legitimacy of state divorce.
First of all, China (39.9 percent) argues that divorce cannot be strongly justified.
This figure shows the tendency of conservative China.
On the contrary, Germany, which values secularism and self-expression, showed 42.8 percent that divorce was always justified.
This shows that the perception of divorce is open.
It can be seen as a little more biased toward the perception that Japan and the U.S. have neutral perceptions but can be justified.
The figures to pay attention to are Koreans, with 4.0 percent strongly opposed to divorce and 1.0 percent strongly justified divorce, showing a balanced view of divorce.
Although the perception of divorce was bad in Korea due to the strong Confucian ideology, the data shows that the negative perception of divorce has been diluted a lot recently.
It can be seen that Korea is becoming more embracing divorce as time goes by.
The second results are based on a survey of China, Germany, Japan, South Korea and the United States on the legitimacy of state Euthanasia.
China's 44.5 percent that euthanasia can never be justified and Germany's 34.8 percent that euthanasia can be strongly justified are impressive.
It can be seen that the United States and Japan have a neutral perception of euthanasia.
South Korea posted a low 0.5 percent on items that strongly justify euthanasia. It is natural to have a negative perception of euthanasia in Korea, where Confucian ideas are strong.
But just as the perception of divorce is changing over time, the perception of euthanasia between generations is likely to change and accept it.
