Blog Assignment2: Hofstede Insights/ Joon Hee Lee
When we first looked at the power distance, it seems that Korea has a slight hierarchical order character with a mid-range score of 60. Then what about other countries?
The United States scored 40 points and Canada 39 points, which were extremely low. On the other hand, Mexico scored 81 points, higher than South Korea. It's located on the same continent, similar to each other.
I thought it would be seen, but it also seems that there are differences between countries.
The second is individualism. Here, the results from the previous review and the opposite figures are recorded. South Korea and Mexico, which scored high in the power division, show low figures this time.(18 points, 30 points, respectively) while Canada and the United States scored high.(80 points, 91 points, respectively) On this point, the following interpretation was written on the homepage. "In American organizations, hierarchy is established for convenience, accessible by superiors, and managers rely on individual staff and teams for their expertise. Consultations are expected and information is often shared by both managers and staff. At the same time, communication is informal, direct and somewhat participatory. Society is loosely bound, people only care for themselves and immediate family members, and should not rely too much on the authorities for support. " Based on this interpretation, the United States and Canada are relatively free from hierarchy and the center of individual action and evaluation is myself. On the other hand, Korea had the lowest score, which seems to be a society with severe side effects when it is not in a particular group.
The next item to be seen seems to express the values that society pursues. The higher the score, the more society is driven by competition, achievement, and success. Considered, a lower score means that society's dominant values are concerned with others and the quality of life. North American countries scored moderately high on average, but South Korea scored exceptionally low.(39 points)
Uncertain avoidance asks the question of how the state accepts uncertain situations. In this regard, we can see that the United States and Canada are actively accepting uncertainties.(46 points, 48 points, respectively) On the other hand, the remaining two countries are said to try to control this uncertainty as much as possible. Korea, in particular, is said to be remarkable worldwide.(82 points, 85 points, respectively)
In the long term orientation, a slightly unusual image appears. In this topic, the higher the score, the more practical it is and the more active it is in investing (saving, educating) for the future. Here, our country has an overwhelming number of 100 points, which appears to be a much more practical and future-oriented society than other countries.
The last item, indulgence, represents the degree of control an individual receives in the course of socialization. The higher the number, the more likely it has to go through an end-of-the-mill This category also shows that Korea recorded very low figures compared to other countries. (29 points)
If I summarize the results so far,
I can get some interesting results.
I can get some interesting results.
1. Differences between Eastern and Western countries stand out.
Although Korea and Mexico seem to share a lot, they still see plastic surgery in opposition to Western countries and various indicators. This is likely to be more accurate if compared with other Asian countries.
2. Korea is very future-oriented and strongly united by collectivism.
This has been a common trend in Korean society. I think I was able to see it stand out today. Also, it seems that this kind of Korean character played a major role in reviving the country after the war in the past.
3. Countries located in similar geographical areas also have different characteristics.
The U.S. and Canada show similar tendencies to the point where analysis suggests that they were almost the same culture. On the other hand, you can see that Mexico, even if it is geographically close, pursues a slightly different direction.
