Blog Assignment2. Hofstede Insights

The countries I chose in Hofstede Insight are Korea, China, and the United States.

The first is Power Distance.

Power  Distance means the extent to which a society accepts the fact that power in an institution or organization is divided equally.Analysis shows that China and Korea, which have a history of class society, accept inequality and value freedom, while the U.S., where most people value freedom, do not accept inequality.

The second is individualism.

Individualism means a loosely woven social structure that people regard only as interested in themselves and their immediate family members.
Analysts say Korea and China, which tend to be collectivistic, are showing low figures, while the United States, which tends to be individualistic, is overwhelmingly high.
The third is masculinity.

This is not to say that a masculinity is male-centered. Strong masculinity means placing importance on things like economic power, self-assertion, and power.

China and the U.S. show high numbers in masculinity, so we can confirm that they are strong in masculinity.

Korea has a relatively low figure, which can be divided into a culture of femininity that places greater value on quality of life, fellowship, and stability.

The fourth is the uncertainly avoidance.

An uncertainty avoidance is a tendency to relieve anxiety by avoiding uncertain conditions or environments as much as possible. In countries with high levels of uncertainty avoidance, it is said to be relatively authoritarian, avoid dangerous situations, and show a passive and emotional tendency toward new attempts. China shows low figures, while the U.S. shows moderate figures. Exceptionally, Korea shows a high figure, which shows that Korean culture emphasizes the importance and stability of top-down relations.

The fifth is Long term Orientation.

Long-term orientation does not deal with the past much and values future-oriented thinking. China and South Korea, which show high figures, can be seen as emphasizing practical values such as sustainability, adaptability and compensation. On the other hand, the U.S. showed a low figure, indicating that it values the past and the present more.

The sixth is indulgence.

It can be confirmed that China and Korea do not value personal desires or leisure time because of low figures. The figures show a highly competitive culture between China and South Korea. The United States shows that it values work-leisure balance with high figures.
