Political globalization
Traditionally, political activities are more confined within national boundaries than economic activities, but under the influence of globalization, politics has also undergone fundamental changes. On the one hand, because many companies and associations have the ability to plan and organize activities on a global basis, the ability of individual governments to control local enterprises and associations is relatively weakened; on the other hand, due to the increase in international activities, international politics has become An important platform for political activities. The policies of individual countries are often influenced by international organizations.
Local politics under globalization
Affected by the activities of globalization, local politics is no longer simply the result of negotiation by local interest groups. The political activities of individual countries are increasingly subject to global norms.
The biggest impact on local politics is the globalization of political organizations. The importance of international organizations has greatly increased in the 20th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were only 37 International Government Organizations (IGOs), and by the end of the 20th century, there were nearly 300. In addition, international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) also increased significantly in the 20th century. In 1909, there were only 371 internationally recognized international non-governmental organizations. By 2000, there were nearly 25,000.
International organizations, such as the World Bank (World Bank), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Trade Organization (WTO), will intervene in the policy formulation of individual countries from time to time. For example, in the 1980s, many South American and African countries were subject to the conditional lending policies of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and implemented a series of government reforms and open market measures. International conventions are also another important development in the globalization of political norms. The more common ones include environmental protection, human rights, and war crimes, which impose certain constraints on governments of various countries.
