[Reading3] What is the relation between politics and globalization?
Summary
It is true that globalization has led to transnationalization. Europe is a prime example. It is now difficult for European countries to escape from European international law. However, in this transnational country, the national anthem does not end. Rather, it changes its aspect as a component. Also, nationality is divided into nationality and citizenship due to internationalization. This transnationalization has rather brought about a new nationalist movement. A nation-state is facing a global transformation.
This political globalization has also created the concept of '‘civil societalization’'. '‘Civil societalization’' refers to the commonality of political forms connecting regions, geographies, or the world. It consists mainly of organizations such as Greenpeace, Medekins San Frontier, the International Women's Movement and the World Social Forum. In particular, the global civil society is striving to weaken the importance of a territorial state.
Indeed, the borders have become blurred by globalization. We can confirm this by the names of global villages, borderless societies, etc. The world is a place, as evidenced by global warming, which is connected by cross-border networks and has recently been considered a serious problem.
But in this structure, the nation gradually loses its political autonomy. It also acts as an obstacle to the nation's independence.
Interesting point
I was impressed by what Mary Robinson, a former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, said: "There are still two superpowers on Earth: the United States and the world's civil society." In fact, globalization is a great opportunity for capitalist countries. In particular, it has resulted in the U.S., a representative of capitalist countries, having the hegemony of the world. His words suggest that the global civil society plays an important role enough to resist the United States. I sympathize with this remark. In fact, fair trade is also the result of the global civil society. Environmental groups are playing that role as well. This is because global environmental groups are working to send warnings to capitalist countries that focus on development.
However, it is interesting to note that the two sides of the global civil society are also mentioned in the article. Some of the civil society actors tend to appoint themselves as spokespeople under a cause to defend them in any case. Even if it was obtained in a way that lacked accountability and democratic credentials,
Discussion
How to secure democratic legitimacy of decision-making on a global level beyond the national anthem?
1) Global governance collectively refers to ways in which government and non-governmental actors work together to solve problems at the global level where sovereign authority is absent.
2)Global public opinion is also a major part of global civil society. World Social Forum (WSF) and
Association for Progressive Communications (APC) represent this global public forum.
