Poverty in Korea is affecting mostly the elderly, Why do you think this is the case?

Korea's welfare budget for senior citizens is 2.6 percent GDP, which is one-third of the OECD average. The poverty rate for senior citizens is 45.7% and the highest in the OECD.
Even if the basic pension of 250,000 won per month is included, one out of every two senior citizens spends less than 1 million won a month in retirement.
This is because it is difficult for the elderly to engage in economic activities.

Since we cannot continue to increase the welfare budget for the elderly, another way is for healthy seniors to have jobs.

But there are only three out of ten senior citizens who actually work, and even most of them are non-regular and low-wage jobs.

Among working seniors, the ratio of simple labor jobs unrelated to their careers continues to rise, and as they get older, the tendency is also noticeable.

The government should continue to create jobs for senior citizens, not just increase the welfare budget for senior citizens. It is important to create an environment in which they can stand on their own feet economically.
