Is our culture better or worse than centuries ago?

Culture cannot compare superiority or inferiority. Our cultural technology can be said to be more advanced than the last century, but this is not a better culture. Culture is a result of the combination of regional characteristics, social factors, environment, and ideas of the country, so it cannot be judged on value. However, a culture that undermines human dignity, such as cannibal culture, is a bad culture. Human rights cannot be violated no matter what. If there is such a culture, it must be changed and apologize to the victim. In the case of Germany, the Holocaust, who committed the Holocaust during World War II, has admitted their fault and apologized to this day.

Korean culture has changed to a more individual-oriented way than before. The old culture of Korea was influenced by Confucian ideology, large family system, status system, agriculture-oriented industry, and the climate of the four seasons. A group culture centered on the village has developed due to the short range of social exchanges and farming mainly in families. So, in farming, a culture of communal sharing of labor was formed that helped each other when labor was needed. After industrialization, Korean society has established a more personal culture. Previously, in the pre-modern period, life and labor were not completely separated because it was a family-based labor center, but in the modern society, many households living alone and working with various people have completely separated the sphere of labor and the individual. Instead of a society in which families or groups are important, it has changed to a society in which individuals are the center. In recent years, values are also changing according to the social form. Even 10 or 20 years ago, a get-together was essential in the workplace, and there was a strong trend that working for the company was more important than individual values. However, this has also changed gradually, and the frequency of get-together has decreased, and if there is an appointment, you may not participate. As such, modern Korean culture is moving from group-centered culture to individual-centered culture.
