Too late to stop climate change? Well, it's complicated.
Currently, global warming is progressing seriously. Earth's temperature is rising as carbon emissions increase, and carbon emissions are 50% higher than 20 years ago. There are many factors that contribute to global warming. First of all, the population is increasing. As the population grew, the production of necessities needed to live increased, leading to an increase in carbon emissions. Economic growth is also one of the factors of global warming. As each country's economy grew, facilities needed for power generation were expanded, and carbon emissions increased accordingly. Global exchanges also increase, increasing the use of petroleum energy needed for exchanges, resulting in increased carbon emissions. Global warming is already rapidly progressing and cannot be reverted to the same environment as before. However, since the rate can be slowed, renewable energy should be used rather than the use of energy with a large amount of carbon emissions nationally, and emissions should be suppressed by collecting taxes on carbon emissions. Individuals should reduce the use of single-use items as much as possible at this point in time of heavy delivery due to coronavirus. It is best not to accept delivery items that are not absolutely necessary, such as spoons and chopsticks. Now, global warming is not an expected problem, but a problem that faces or is in contact with reality. Therefore, it is necessary to act quickly by the state and individuals.
While watching the video, I first learned that using YouTube video or OTT service increases carbon emissions. The videos we watch on YouTube and Netflix are stored in a large corporate cloud, the size of which is beyond our imagination. The air conditioner must be turned on to cool off the heat from this device, but it is said that there is a lot of carbon from it.
Also, through the video, I learned that energy-efficient products are not very effective in reducing carbon emissions. Energy-efficient products themselves have low carbon emissions, but in the modern era, people use multiple energy-efficient products rather than one energy-efficient product, so carbon emissions do not decrease. For example, 20 years ago, only one refrigerator was used, but these days, energy-efficient refrigerators, kimchi refrigerators, wine refrigerators, and cosmetics refrigerators are all used, so the carbon emission remains the same as before.
Developed countries that have already used a lot of petroleum energy to generate power must take more responsibility for climate change. Recently, in developed countries, there has been discussion on reducing carbon emissions, and discussions have been made to reduce carbon emissions to a certain level. There are concerns that this will not be done properly. What methods or sanctions can advanced countries properly deliver on their commitments to reduce carbon emissions?
