What is globalization? / Taeyi Lim
1) Summary
The concept of globalization varies
according to the context of each society. In the case of developing countries, they
do not prefer to accept the concept of globalization defined in a privileged
social context. That's why scholars talk about globalization in plural.
Globalization includes a variety of topics, including global governance, global
citizenship, and human rights. Despite many definitions of globalization, it is
an unnecessary attempt to claim uniqueness in most similarities.
Globalization consists mainly of two
directions: global connectivity and increased global awareness. It also focuses
on four criteria: state-state, world politics, individuals, and humanity, as in
the operation of the United Nations. Finally, globalization consists of
culture, society, politics, and economics, and they are complicatedly
intertwined.
In conclusion, the concept of globalization
remains controversial and we need a lot of discussion about it.
2) Interesting point
The background of the rise of globalization
theory is that the world is becoming more unified. I found this interesting.
When I thought of globalization, I thought only that connectivity increases
around the world by focusing on connectivity. It was also interesting that
important social and scientific factors were not noticed while focusing on the
concept of capitalism on globalization. Despite the overlooked social and
scientific factors, the spread of interaction and communication played an
important role in the globalization process.
3) Discussion
When we think about the negative aspects of
globalization, how can the meaning of globalization change?
