What is globalization?

There are some differences in perspective in the concept of globalization.

Belho(1997) described globalization as objects, perspectives, and horizons. This needs to be identified as a single process, as globalization is process.

The term globalization has been widely used since the fall of the Berlin Wall, although there has been talk of globalization since then. The collapse of communism was partly due to mixture of people taking economic positions and people looking at a broader perspective.

The anti-globalization movement emerged in the late 1990s because of the consciousness that globalization creates great inequality. In other words, an anti-globalization movement has emerged in the economic sense. As protests against capitalist globalization increased, many people thought that the anti-globalization movement itself was part of the globalization process. Since the early 1990s, globalization has been developed by wealthy countries. Important social and scientific factors haver been ignored amid such a concentration of capitalist thinking (open markets, free trade, deregulation, privatization, etc.). Those who had been thinking of globalization in a more multidimensional way, not in a single dimension(economy), approached globalization discussions and research, but were not as ideological as those with a single dimension(economy) form the beginning. But as the interested in globalization grew in politics, I became interested in topics such as sovereignty and territoriality, and in anthropology, I became interested in the study of society(especially primitive society).

The parameters of the general process of globalization

The most important definition of globalization can be misunderstood as 'interconnection'. So many people generally do not know what should be considered a combination of subjective and cultural elements. In other words, both connectivity and consciousness must be solved, but relatively disregarded in favor of one.

The dimensions of globalization

Globalization, written by sociologists, states that there are three major dimensions of economy, politics, and culture. culture has become increasingly prominent partly because of concerns about economic globalization. There are many stories about what was called the 'Mcdonaldization'(2000).

Despite the irony of sociologists' relative disregard for society in numerous books on globalization, the spread of social interaction and communication styles clearly played an important role in the globalization process.(castells and knorr cetina) They define the main dimensions of globalization as culture, society, politics, and economics. It should be emphasized that communication is included when referring to social dimensions.

The form of globalization

We can see globalization too easily in our daily lives. I watched EPL in real time this morning, ate McDonald's for lunch, and now I'm doing my homework with Apple computer. In these various fields, borders are gradually disappearing and various things are moving freely, creating globalization. Until I through about 'globalization' in depth through this task, I thought that 'globalization is a good thing'. However, I was able to think a lot when I saw the anti-globalization movement from what is globalization. It's said that the anti-globalization movement began around the late 1990s, because globalization creates great inequality. Does globalization really make a big inequality?

Castells and Knorrectina talked about the main dimensional culture, society, politics, and economy of globalization at this point in time.
First, with the influx of various cultures around the world, there are many opportunities to experience various cultures. Ironically, however, there is a phenomenon in which culture is unified. It means that the influence of a particular culture expands and hurts the diversity of the rest of the culture. For example, people who have all Apple products are referred to as sensuous people, while those who have products other than Apple are sometimes dismissed as 'people who have no Apple sensitivity'.
Second, our country is now a multicultural society. If you go to Incheon, there is a Chinatown, and Ansan also has a neighborhood where multicultural families are gathered. However, with the globalization of this society, social conflicts are occurring everywhere. At an elementary school in Gwangju, I saw news that some students from Islamic cultures were skipping meals because there was no 'HALAL food'. Society is becoming globalized, but I think it is a problem caused by lack of understanding.
Third, the globalization of politics can be felt often in the news these days. At a time when the Japanese prime minister changes and the U.S. presidential election is just around the corner, we often see the news about what kind of stamina our country should take. Of course, governments in each country often consult to solve the problem now that they have become a global village, but I think the positions of the great powers are usually strong. The economic crisis of the great powers has an adverse effect on other countries' economies. The 2007-2008 global financial crisis was a crisis that began in the U.S. financial markets and spread around the world. At that time, Citigroup was forced to make large-scale adjustments, which led to the collapse of the Icelandic coalition government.

I was thinking that globalization is natural and should be accepted. But globalization is affecting many parts of us. Instead of thinking that globalization can solve all problems, we should think about how we should accept it in the future. I think we should keep up with the trends of globalization in the future.
