[ Blog Assignment 1 ] WVS analysis : Important in life: Politics

Politics is the activity of acquiring, maintaining and exercising state power, and it is the work of making people live decent lives and rectifying social order. Every country in the world has its own political system. I looked into how important politics is for the people of Korea, China, Japan and the United States through the WVS analysis.

Before we get to the point, Each of these countries has a different political system. For first, China has the political system of a one-party communist dictatorship. Japan has a parliamentary cabinet system under which state affairs are run through the National Assembly and the Cabinet. And South Korea is implementing a presidential system based on a democratic republic. United States operates under the same presidential system as South Korea, but differs in the parliamentary system.

They divided the evaluation of how important politics is in life into Very important, Rather important, Not very important, Not at all important, Don't know and No answer.

The data were based on China in 2018, Japan in 2019, South Korea in 2018 and the United States in 2017.

China has the highest percentage of respondents who say it is very important. On the contrary, Korea has the lowest percentage, 8.0%.

The percentage of people who think it is not important was high in order of China, Korea, the United States and Japan.

In China, the polarization of the positive and the opposite sides of the political importance was most pronounced.

In conclusion, Japan considers politics the most important than other countries. In all four countries, however, more than half of the respondents said politics is important.
