What is the difference between Korean and Western movie market? / Kim Yoon(김윤)

Image
Movie posters in Korea seem to have a strong tendency to highlight characters' faces compared to those in the West. Koreans think the story of the movie is important, but at the same time, it seems that the "who" appears in the movie is also important. For example, as in the above picture, the director of the film "Jack Reacher" is said to have produced a separate film poster for Korean consumers, featuring the main character Tom Cruise's face. Because he is popular in Korea. In the West, on the other hand, it seems more likely that the overall atmosphere of the movie is to be put on posters.

If the current rich countries are aging, and their population will decrease, how can it affect the world society in few decades?/PARK HYE MIN(박혜민)

In Korea, the number of babies a couple has now had is less than one. Not only the birth rate but also the marriage rate is decreasing. In the next few decades, Korea's age group believes that older people over 60 will account for half of the population. In fact, in the case of Japan next door, the problem of the elderly is prominent as a super-aged society. I believe that Korea will become like Japan in the future.  If you look at the countries that lead to this super-aged society, they are rich countries, as you can see from the question. On the contrary, poor countries, such as Southeast Asia and the African continent, show that the number of children and young people is much higher than that of the elderly. In Korea, the elderly who run farming in rural areas lack labor because of the large population of cities. The insufficient labor force is filled by the poor countries mentioned above, such as Southeast Asians, who come in and fill it with the insufficient farming labor.

Could globalization collapse again?/PARK HYE MIN(박혜민)

CDC Threat Report: ‘We Will Soon Be in a Post-Antibiotic Era’ (2013) After reading , I came to think about what globalization will be like in the future.  Even now, the Corona-19 is causing countless countries around the world to suffer, and the number of confirmed people seems to be growing out of control. This 2020 was hit economically by the Corona-19 and there were limitations in daily life, such as not being able to go abroad freely.   Even when I read the above report, it seems that it is no longer a war between nations, but a war against infectious diseases. In addition to Corona-19, there will be numerous other infectious diseases, which are in some ways associated with the survival laws of these diseases, and are believed to be a struggle for their survival in the future of the Earth where humans live.   With the advent of various variables in the future, the society we live in will experience other chaos, which could cause globalization to collapse again. However, even now

Why Koreans and Poles value the environment less than Americans, Australian, Chinese or Japanese?/PARK HYE MIN(박혜민)

As a Korean living in Korea, I thought about whether the environment is less important. The first is that there are fewer environmental problems than in other countries. Compared to the territory of the United States, China and Japan, Korea has a narrow territory. Therefore, environmental problems do not manifest themselves. For example, China's air pollution, such as yellow dust and fine dust, is not clearly seen in Korea, so the seriousness of the problem is not felt. Secondly, it is necessary to recognize the characteristics of Korean society as the reason why economic growth and job creation are more important than environmental issues. Currently, Korean society is uncertain about the future and is in endless competition. The younger generation, in particular, is giving up many aspects such as entering universities, getting a job, and getting married. So this generation is called the N 포 generation. From this point of view, Korean society has a large economic presence, and

What other local adaptations of global culture can we think of?/PARK HYE MIN(박혜민)

Among Korean foods, various foods are going abroad. For example, the ramen brand Shin Ramyun has made inroads into various countries, including China, Europe, and the United States. Shin Ramyun, which expresses the spicy taste of Koreans, has captivated the taste of foreigners while retaining its original spicy taste. This is a case of success by creating discrimination against other ramens by maintaining the original taste rather than changing it to the taste of locals. In contrast, there is Paris Baguette, famous for its Korean bakery strategy. Paris Baguette has also made inroads into various countries, including Europe and the United States, and photos of Paris Baguette's bread in Paris, France, have become a hot topic on SNS. The reason is that it actually looked more delicious than the bread of Korean Paris Baguette, could see more kinds, and the price was also cheaper. This shows that Paris, France, has adapted to local culture with its localization strategy, which is fam

How Korean is Samsung? Let's guess. What % of Samsung a) revenue b) shareholders and c) employees are domestic (Korean)?/PARK HYE MIN(박혜민)

  A) revenue Among Samsung's revenue, Korea had the lowest ratio of less than 25 percent, followed by Europe, the United States, and Asia. From this, we can see that Samsung's revenue is making money by exporting products to other countries.   B) shareholders Domestic shareholders account for 50 to 75 percent of Samsung's shareholders, followed by the United States, Europe and the rest of the world. This shows that Samsung's shareholders are symbiotic in view of the fact that Koreans have the largest share of Samsung's shareholders and that there are many companies related to Samsung.   C) employees Finally, Samsung's employees are almost 50% in Asia and 25 to 50% in Korea. Through this, we can see that the factory that produces Samsung products is located in the Asian country, which means that many of the employees in Samsung factories have Asian nationality. The next largest number of Korean employees is Samsung, which is the second largest number of K

How is the price of rice in Korea affected by the government? Could rice be cheaper if the government did not interfere? Who benefits from the current price of rice in Korea? Who loses? If government interference stopped and rice became cheaper, who would benefit and who would lose? Should the government stop interfering with the price of rice? / Jeong hyemin

Q : How is the price of rice in Korea affected by the government? Could rice be cheaper if the government did not interfere? Who benefits from the current price of rice in Korea? Who loses? If government interference stopped and rice became cheaper, who would benefit and who would lose? Should the government stop interfering with the price of rice?  A : The price of rice in Korea is affected by the policy. Tariffs are imposed on imported rice and limits on rice prices. Without these policies, rice is expected to be more expensive. I think the price could rise further due to farmers' labor costs or people's demand. Currently, consumers are benefiting from the price of rice in Korea. If the government stops interfering and the price of rice becomes cheaper, consumers will also benefit from increased sales, and farmers (suppliers) will benefit. I think that would hurt the exporting countries. I don't think we need to stop the current policy because it's for the people.

What's the difference between UN and ASEAN? / Jeong hyemin

The United Nations stands for United Nations. It is an international organization established to prevent war and maintain peace, and 193 countries are joined. ASEAN stands for the Association of South-East Asian Nations and is the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The difference between the two is the state. The United Nations is an international organization that targets the world, but ASEAN is targeted at Southeast Asian countries. The purpose of the establishment is also different. The former was established to establish the economic and social foundations of the region, while the latter was established for peace. The United Nations is located in New York, USA, and ASEAN is located in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Should United Nation be reformed - and how would you do it? / Jeong hyemin

I think the United Nations should change accordingly because the world is constantly changing. In the present situation, there are many changes caused by COVID-19 and must be innovated accordingly.

What are some the major issues in world politics right now? / Jeong hyemin

I think the main issue of world politics now is the economic slowdown following the COVID-19. Not only Korea but also the whole world is facing an economic crisis due to the fandom caused by the COVID-19.

[Reading3] What is the relation between politics and globalization? / Jeong hyemin

Summary Politics is inseparable from globalization. Political globalization is spreading all over the world. The first dimension of political globalization is the geopolitics of world power. Secondly, it means the rise of a global normative culture, which is independent. Also, it is most related to people. Political globalization has the dynamics of state, nationality and citizenship, public domain and political communication, civil society and space and boundaries. Interesting point Networks are developed and developing all over the world. The network has made the world much more convenient. This led to further globalization, but I didn't think it had anything to do with politics. This part was interesting. With the development of the network, the political sector also develops. But there are also negative aspects of this. Discussion What should countries do to create a world without boundaries?

"What is the relation between politics and globalization?” / Minji Moon

(Summary) There are two sides to political globalization. First of all, political globalization opens up the possibility of a new liberation. On the one hand, however, political globalization loses its autonomy and causes world division. The most common form of political globalization is the spread of democracy to the world. Today most of the world's countries take the form of democracy. Democracy has become a universal form of government since 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the European communist regime. Next, the culture of global norms came to mind. A prime example is human rights. And this includes global environmental issues. Lastly, there is a civil society. Civil society is the realm of informal politics for any purpose. This includes the International Non-Government Organization. They are horizontally united and organized worldwide. Today's culture of world norms exists beyond the national system. Rather, it is a tense relationship with the

What are the biggest differences between those countries? In this grape, the biggest difference is 'individualism'. In particular, there is a big difference between Korea and New Zealand. 1. Power Distance  Power Distance is defined as the extent to which the less powerful members of institutions and organisations within a country expect and accept that power is distributed unequally. France is a society in which a fair degree of inequality is accepted. Power is not only centralised in companies and government, but also geographically.  New Zealand is Within organizations, hierarchy is established for convenience, superiors are always accessible and managers rely on individual employees and teams for their expertise. Both managers and employees expect to be consulted and information is shared frequently. At the same time, communication is informal, direct and participative. South Korea is a slightly hierarchical society. This means that people accept a hierarchical order in w

Q :  Important in life: Family I compared Korea and China how important family is in life. I heard that policy requires only one child and sometimes hides the case of having more than one child. On the other hand, individualism appears in Korea, such as having "dink people" who do not have children or not getting married at all.  Therefore, I expected China to think that it is higher than Korea. The results were not as expected. Although it was a fine difference, the number of respondents who answered "Very important" was higher in Korea than in China.  Next(Rather important), China was a little higher, but they didn't show much of a relationship.

The historical background of contemporary globalization

After reading the history of globalization, everyone should understand that globalization is not a straight road that only moves forward and never retreats. Globalization requires historical conditions and institutional foundations. This section will talk about the background of the peak of contemporary globalization. The rise of Anglo-American neoliberalism In 1979, Mrs. Dayall of the United Kingdom led the Conservative Party in power and advocated the so-called "withdraw the government from the market." Policies include the privatization of state-owned enterprises and the reduction of government spending, which promoted the rise of so-called neoliberalism. After President Reagan took office, he extensively implemented reforms such as tax cuts and fee reductions, encouragement of private enterprise competition, and reduction of market regulation. The Soviet Union collapsed While the United Kingdom and the United States pushed forward the administrative reform, the communist

The history of globalization

In a broad sense of globalization, that is, in terms of social communication across national boundaries and regions, globalization has already existed, but it has become more significant in recent decades. Regarding the starting point of globalization, although academic circles have not yet reached a consensus, they generally agree that globalization is not a matter of recent decades, but has a longer history. This section will talk about the different stages of globalization and its characteristics in history. Characteristics of different periods of globalization in history Fragmented early globalization Period: before human beings sailed around the world Features: scattered, lack of systematic international communication Main globalization activities: Trade-such as exporting spices and silk from Asia to Europe Religion-such as the Tang Sanzang taking the Western Classics Military-such as Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Tang Taizong and other military expansion The rise and coloni

Cultural Globalization

The most important of cultural globalization is the development of communication media, especially so-called electronic media, such as television and the Internet. Through the media, a large amount of real-time information is available all over the world. Multinational corporations in the West (especially the United States) are powerful, coupled with their monopoly advantage in transnational communication media, so cultural globalization is often the spread of Western culture around the world. The so-called "McDonaldization" and "cultural imperialism" that we often hear basically refer to the cultural globalization in which the West (or the United States) unilaterally spreads its ideological standards and behavior patterns to all parts of the world. The absorption and resistance of local culture In fact, local culture has never passively received Western culture. American football is the most popular sport in the United States, and it is not necessarily popular in

R2) What is the relation between culture and globalization? / Juhee Kim

Summary The author defined globalization in this way. Globalization is just an explanation of the flow across the periphery and international boundaries of virtually everything, including capital, goods, people, knowledge, information, ideas, crime, pollution, disease, fashion, faith and image. The connection of being around everything, a characteristic of globalization, has deeply entered our lives. This connectivity is more easily recognizable if we live in a globalized AREA. Connectivity can be a form of communication technology, such as mobile phones, computers, e-mail, the Internet, or a characteristic of the urban environment in which we live, such as the way we make a living, the style of food we eat, music, movies, television, mobility, and travel experience. Therefore, understanding globalization as a process of increasing connectivity is something that can understand the complexity of globalization. From this point of view, the biggest impact of globalization on culture is th

Reading Assignment 3: What is the relation between politics and globalization? -Youngryun,Chun

 1. Summary Multidimensional and accelerated globalization approaches the social world, which emphasizes not only the consciousness of the people but also the transnational process. As an example of political globalization, democracy is being applied to many countries. Also, we can talk about a global normative culture. This political globalization shows the versatility of globalization. With the development of political globalization, the globalization of national states, namely the model and institutionalized governance of political states, has been created. In addition, a global normative culture emerged. This has spread the universality of democracy, but it also creates shortcomings in democracy around the world. But political globalization works to keep the nation stable. The resulting development of multinational networks, especially the global civil society, creates new opportunities. The perception of new political acts and ways of governance creates new values. 2. What I lea

What is the relation between politics and globalization? - Park Jaehyeon

Summary In this article, the concept of globalization refers to multidimensional, accelerated and interconnected. For some, the process of political globalization opens up the possibility of new liberation, while for others, globalization leads to the loss of autonomy and the division of the social world. Article  said in the article that political globalization can be understood as a tension between the three processes of interacting to produce a complex field of world politics: world geopolitics, world norm culture and multidimensional network. One of the most common forms of political globalization is spreading around the world.  Parliamentary state-based democratic governments exist in some form in most parts of the world.  The famous paper, The End of History, misinterpreted the spread of liberal democracy as the end of ideology.  Democracy leads not to the end of ideology but to the spread of more and different kinds of ideology. Many parts of the world of democratic nations ha

The Relation between Politics and Globalization

Political globalization refers to the formation of a global political system. Political globalization is sometimes seen as internationalism. Internationalism is not against nationalism. Nor is it insisting on the abolition of the existing sovereign state. It would not be internationalism if it were to deny nationalism and sovereign states.  It is unlikely that the world government that will emerge will need a more detailed organization in form than it is now. Since the United Nations was born at the height of internationalism, the world government's prospects were much contained in the UN organization.   Regardless of the shape, the formation of a global government means expanding public nature at a global level. Any civilization In any society, sustainability is based on publicness. It is public nature to impose restraint on the action of power, whether physical or capital. No civilization or society can last long without restraint and in a state of overflowing power.   Absolute
